Black-capped Chickadee
Scientific: Parus atricapillus
Norwegian: Amerikameis
The Black-capped Chickadee is only 5-6 inches and has a short neck and large head. They live in woodlands, groves, and thickets and are year-round residents. They commonly build their nests in birch or alder trees and eat insects, berries, and seeds. They hide seeds and other items to eat later, remembering thousands of hiding places. The more "dee" notes in their alarm call, the higher the threat.
